ALAN INGRAM

The Broad Superintendents Academy Class of 2007
Superintendent
Springfield Public Schools, Mass.
Retired Chief Master Sergeant, U.S. Air Force

“My faith tells me that from everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. At the heart of my motivation to serve and lead as a public school superintendent is a genuine desire to make more of a difference while having an impact where the need is greatest—in an urban community.”

In May 2008, Alan Ingram was appointed superintendent of Springfield Public Schools in Massachusetts, a district serving nearly 26,000 students in 47 schools. Previously, Ingram served as chief accountability officer for Oklahoma City Public Schools, a district serving more than 38,000 students in 80 schools. He also served the Oklahoma district as the executive director of federal programs in Oklahoma City and directed delivery of educational support services for the district. Before that, Ingram served the district in a variety of roles including acting director of Title I, executive administrator of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, and assistant director of magnet and specialty schools. Prior to transitioning to public education, he served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 22 years, where he attained the rank of chief master sergeant, a rank to which only one percent of enlisted officers ascend. Ingram has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland (European Division), a master’s degree from Webster University and a doctorate in education administration, curriculum and supervision from the University of Oklahoma.  Ingram is a graduate of the 2007 class of The Broad Superintendents Academy.
