CINDY LOE
The Broad Superintendents Academy Class of 2004
Superintendent
Fulton County Schools, Ga.
"Recent studies -- and my own experience -- have shown that all children can meet and exceed our highest expectations if we implement common sense strategies for teaching and learning: teach the curriculum, regularly assess student learning and provide time and opportunity for students who need to be challenged to go beyond the basics. I am eager to serve as superintendent in an urban system where I will have the opportunity to implement these strategies to improve the education of all students."
In March 2008, Cindy Loe was appointed Superintendent for Fulton County Schools in Georgia, a district that serves more than 90,000 students in 99 schools. Previously, Dr. Loe served as Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning for the Gwinnett County Public Schools, Georgia's largest school system with over 128,000 students in 87 schools. She also served the Gwinnett district as Associate Superintendent for Organizational Advancement. Under Dr. Loe's leadership the district's achievement gaps have narrowed and test scores have risen to all-time highs at every school level. Dr. Loe oversees curriculum and instruction; planning, forecasting and redistricting; student accountability, assessment and advisement; special education and psychological services; professional development; research; and continuous quality improvement. She is responsible for an annual budget of over $434 million. Dr. Loe is a former middle school principal, elementary administrator and a regular education and gifted program teacher at the elementary and middle school levels. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Georgia State University, her Master of Education from Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration and Supervision from Georgia State University. Loe is a graduate of the 2004 class of The Broad Superintendents Academy.
